Welcome !

Welcome to Troop 44's web site designed to make communication faster and easier for our families. Monthly newsletters, calendars and permission slips are all published here along with a lot of other useful information. Weekly meeting plans are sent to every Scout via email and also posted here.
Troop 44 has been chartered to St. Paul Presbyterian Church for 43 years and we meet weekly on Thursdays, 7:00 - 8:30 PM at the church. We currently have between 40 and 50 registered Scouts and about the same number of adults participating as leaders or committee members.
The site is protected for the benefit of our Scouts. Please use the 'contact us' function if you need more information.

TONIGHT'S MEETING

Posted on May 5 2016 - 10:11am

The May newsletter and calendar are posted to this site in Files.

There is tennis, track and soccer this evening. From now until the end of school, there will be concerts on Thursday evenings and we understand. Scouts should make sure that if they commit to a responsibility during the meeting and cannot be there, they cover their commitment by inviting another Scout to substitute or at minimum, notify the Senior Patrol Leader of their absence.

Mining in Society Camporee

Posted on May 1 2016 - 2:19pm

Great weekend outing despite rain and wind. Probably the highlight for most was the mine tour, a massive underground limestone mine, the largest in Iowa and second in size in the Midwest only to the one in Nebraska. Very impressive. We learned some geology, a lot about reclamation, met a number of engineers, geologists, mechanics and State inspectors and contractors who all work in the mining industry. We know about Guardian Angels, nasty respirators and all the safety equipment that goes with being a miner. We even had our own ‘toe tags’ to go down in the mine. 20 Scouts earned the entire merit badge and those will be presented at the May Court of Honor. A packet of Martin Marietta goodies will be given out next Thursday including the event patch to the attendees.

Swim checks for summer camp

Posted on Apr 12 2016 - 10:55am

All Scouts and adults planning to participate in any pool or boating merit badges and 'free' swims, must take the swimmer test. This year we are able to complete those prior to camp and have scheduled those for May 19 at the Urbandale Pool, 7:00 PM.

Eagle Ceremonies

Posted on Apr 8 2016 - 1:25pm

There will be an Eagle ceremony for Jack H. and Christian L. on Sunday, May 8, at 2:00 PM at St. Paul.
All Troop 44 families are invited to attend.

Shooting Sports

Posted on Apr 1 2016 - 12:24pm

On May 13 - 15, 2016, Troop 44 will go to Central Iowa Shooting Sports for a Hunter Safety course, rifle and shotgun merit badges. There is no age limit on who may shoot, but priority will be given to those earning the merit badges. The cost of your Hunter Safety class is included in the event fee. This opportunity comes about every three years and your Hunter Safety is current if you took it the last time this was offered.

Camp Cedars photos

Posted on Mar 14 2016 - 11:09am

A few photos of our campsite at Cedars this summer have been added to an album Camp Cedars, March, 2016. We are in Haddix campsite, a very large area with 21 two-man Scout tents and 3 adult leader tents. We will be adding a few of our own, a challenge as it slopes downhill fairly significantly. The trail is rough as construction equipment has torn up the surface and will be very muddy if it rains at all.
