Welcome !

Welcome to Troop 44's web site designed to make communication faster and easier for our families. Monthly newsletters, calendars and permission slips are all published here along with a lot of other useful information. Weekly meeting plans are sent to every Scout via email and also posted here.
Troop 44 has been chartered to St. Paul Presbyterian Church for 43 years and we meet weekly on Thursdays, 7:00 - 8:30 PM at the church. We currently have between 40 and 50 registered Scouts and about the same number of adults participating as leaders or committee members.
The site is protected for the benefit of our Scouts. Please use the 'contact us' function if you need more information.

Tomorrow night is the May Court of Honor, 7:00 PM for all our families. Troop 44 will provide ice cream, drinks, tableware and each family is asked to bring one dessert to share. We now have a young man who is allergic to nuts (peanuts and tree nuts) so we respectfully ask that you leave those ingredients out or if you use them, please mark your dessert clearly that it ‘contains nuts’.

Shooting Sports

Posted on May 25 2016 - 9:36am

The windiest outing in a long time and a Friday night without much sleep didn't prevent the group from having fun and learning a lot about gun safety. Photos are now posted on this site.

Mining in Society Camporee

Posted on May 6 2016 - 5:23pm

Photos now posted. Great weekend outing despite rain and wind. Probably the highlight for most was the mine tour, a massive underground limestone mine, the largest in Iowa and second in size in the Midwest only to the one in Nebraska. Very impressive. We learned some geology, a lot about reclamation, met a number of engineers, geologists, mechanics and State inspectors and contractors who all work in the mining industry. We know about Guardian Angels, nasty respirators and all the safety equipment that goes with being a miner. We even had our own ‘toe tags’ to go down in the mine. 20 Scouts earned the entire merit badge and those will be presented at the May Court of Honor. A packet of Martin Marietta goodies will be given out next Thursday including the event patch to the attendees.
